Iceland’s Lesbian Prime Minister

In General Thoughts on January 30, 2009 at 2:50 am

Iceland’s most popular politician is now set to be sworn in as the world’s first openly gay head of state. Does this clear the path for Hillary?

Update: Forget about Hil, today America had its first transgender Congressional aide sworn in, Diego Miguel Sanchez, working for Rep. Barney Frank.

Why We Watch Nip Tuck (sidebar)

In General Thoughts on January 28, 2009 at 9:23 am

We watch Nip Tuck for the same reason we watch The L Word … lesbians. Unfortunately, the two series share a common MO; a mindless plot and superficial, unrealistic characters.

Roma Maffia plays “Dr. Liz Cruz”, the outspoken lesbian anesthesiologist who is affectionately referred to as “Lezzy” by Julian McMahon’s character Dr.  Troy. Up until this season, there existed only playful banter between the lifetime lesbian and aging playboy. But, to the disappointment of many lesbos tuning in, much like the new ending of Lez Girls, Liz crosses over in a moment of weakness and allows Dr. Troy to sleep-hump her, which has now led her to question her sexuality.

And then there’s Julia, the center of the show’s love triangle … another tourist. While she is now one of the show’s resident lesbians, the only real homos on Nip Tuck are closet-cases Dr. Troy and Dr. MacNamera.

The question is this: Where are the REAL lesbians we long for in tv land?

Just To Clarify

In General Thoughts on January 27, 2009 at 10:20 pm

We do not, I repeat, do not “HATE” The L Word. I suppose there might be some confusion about this considering this is a blog about all of its downfalls, however it should be known that we have watched The L Word every season, we have had our share of watching parties, and if we’re not home in time for it on Sunday night, someone is going to get punched. However, we also find ourselves laughing during scenes that are supposed to be very serious, and cannot imagine a reality in which it would be a good idea to keep a character like Jenny on the show, which has led us to create this blog. You don’t have to agree with us, that’s not our goal. We’re not looking to convert anyone to poke fun at The L Word on our side of the fence.

Please don’t be offended, don’t take anything we say as a personal attack on L Word fans. We’ve been watching this show just as long as you have, and have hoped every year would be better, only to find disappointment. Don’t take the The L Word talk so seriously, it’s all in good fun. If you can’t laugh at a show like The L Word, what can you laugh at?
